Exploring the Rich Heritage of Sojat & GI Henna

The Birthplace of Quick Henna

Ancient Origins of Henna

The earliest use of Henna and its dye applications can be traced back to ancient civilizations such as Babylon and Egypt, as referenced in religious commentaries including the Talmud. In India, its presence is recorded as early as the 4th century, evident in Hindu scriptures and the cave arts of the Deccan region. Beyond its role as a beautification dye, Henna was historically valued as a medicinal and cultural plant, symbolizing healing, celebration, and artistic expression.

Ancient Origins of Henna

Sojat: The Birthplace of Quick Henna

Sojat, once a humble village hamlet, is today a thriving small town in the Marwar region (erstwhile Jodhpur Empire). Located at the start of the Thar desert on the banks of the Sukri River in Pali District, Rajasthan, it has been celebrated in Ayurveda texts as Tamravati Nagri—the land of coloring plants. Blessed with the perfect climate and soil, Sojat is an epicenter for Henna and Cumin. Families from farming communities have been engaged for generations in cultivating, processing, and promoting Lawsonia Inermis (Henna). This tradition has been preserved by the Gupta-Goyal family for five generations, led today by our Co-Founder, Mr. Vipin Goyal, who continues the legacy by blending ancient plant wisdom with modern scientific innovations.

From Sojat to the World: Quick Henna’s Legacy

The journey of Quick Henna® from the rich soils of Sojat to a global presence reflects the harmony of heritage and innovation. The geo-location of Sojat provides the ideal mix of heat and rainwater, producing Mehndi cultivated 100% naturally by rainfall, which in turn boosts the pigment content of Lawsone. More than 90% of India’s Henna is grown here and exported worldwide. In 2016, Mr. Vipin Goyal expanded the horizon by initiating research into Lawsonia Inermis, Cassia Angustifolia (Senna), and Cassia Obovata (colorless Henna). This exploration not only deepened the scientific understanding of these plants but also opened new avenues for innovative formulations that balance purity with modern applications.

Uniqueness of Sojat Henna

The soil properties of Sojat make its Henna stand out for quality, purity, and natural dyeing ability. While the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) requires a minimum of 1.0% lawsone pigment content in ordinary Mehndi, Sojat Henna far exceeds this benchmark, consistently offering more than 2.5%. This higher pigment content ensures a richer, deeper, and longer-lasting stain, setting Sojat Mehndi apart from all other varieties in the world. Its superior quality has earned admiration and trust across cultures and continents.

Uniqueness of Sojat Henna

GI tag is a form of intellectual property, a certification given to certain goods or products which are unique to a geographical region. It is an integral part of the development which advances economic interests. These tags are a tool to protect the ownership rights on natural resources and manufactured goods. Products having GI tags prevent unauthorised use, provision of original species and in turn provide financial gain for farmer, producers through traditional sales to global markets.
